BOOK REVIEW: Inkredia by Sarang Mahajan

BOOK REVIEW: Inkredia by Sarang Mahajan

Inkredia: Luwan of Brida is the first book in the series of four. Written by Sarang Mahajan, it is a fast-paced fantasy novel. Written in the fashion of tell-tale fantasy, this book takes the reader on an adventure that has knights, magic, mystery, and questions that need to be answered. From start to finish, the plot revolves around the two characters of both siblings. One is a seventeen-year-old Luwan and his sister Meg who live in the mountain village of Brida. Both of them are orphans since there is a little reference for their father or any other relative. The book cover might not seem an attractive one but believe as I started reading it, I could not keep my […]

Netgalley is a good platform to browse for upcoming books. If you get lucky, you will get the chance to read an ARC of a book you wish too. I also think it is one of the biggest platforms to search for indie authors. Recently, I got my hands on Tom Graneau’s new book, Pennies to Power: How to use your 20’s to Gain Financial Independence for Life. For those of you who do not know, Tom is an advocate for working independently. At least to generate an income for your own efforts instead of working for others and fulfilling their dreams. In this book, he tries to provide pragmatic patterns and suggestions. He intakes 7 cultural barriers that are […]

BOOK REVIEW Super Me by Jessica Dazzo

BOOK REVIEW Super Me by Jessica Dazzo

Posted August 9, 2018 by @amanhimself in Book Reviews, Books, Fiction / 2 Comments

I do not read many young adult novels these days for two reasons: I am out of touch from the world of young adults to get information about new books in this genre. The second being I do not get enough recommendations these days, so I am on my own. However, I got the chance to read Super Me by Jessica Dazzo. It is categorized in this genre and is the first book in a series that may constitute more.   Faye is not an ordinary teenager. She has a mom who likes someone to call her by her first name even from her own daughter. On Faye’s seventeenth birthday, her life becomes more extraordinary when she feels and hear […]

BOOK REVIEW: The Book of M by Peng Shepherd

BOOK REVIEW: The Book of M by Peng Shepherd

Posted August 7, 2018 by @amanhimself in Book Reviews, Books, Dystopia, Fiction / 5 Comments

When I came across Peng Shepherd’s debut work, I was foremost attracted by the mysteriousness of the cover of her book. There is no drug that can give you that much high than a book’s beautifully designed cover on which you set your skeptical eyes. Imagine if you lose your shadow today, somehow. How will you respond to that? What will be your reaction? Will you overreact? Will you have thought that you have lost something close to you? The storyline of this dystopian novel toys with the idea of human beings losing shadow due to some vibe. This doesn’t sound creepy and weird at all, does it? After losing the shadow, an individual’s memory starts to fade. For some, […]

BOOK REVIEW: Flaming Forties by Giri Sharma

BOOK REVIEW: Flaming Forties by Giri Sharma

Posted July 24, 2018 by @amanhimself in Book Reviews, Books, Fiction / 4 Comments

Giri Sharma’s latest novella Flaming Forties: A Journey Which Changed Their Lives has a lively theme with all the modern elements one can think of. The book is based in Mumbai, India, where four childhood friends dwell together on a journey. The story of these four friends is an interesting reflection of life. The plot starts with the journey to Manali and Shimla from Mumbai. All of the friends are in their forties and happily married or recently widowed. They are meeting after a long time and haven’t been in contact for 28 years. The plot covers two themes simultaneously and succeeds in doing so. These two themes, friendship, and marriage are rarely seen together in one book. The storyline […]

BOOK REVIEW: Crushing It by Gary Vaynerchuk

BOOK REVIEW: Crushing It by Gary Vaynerchuk

Posted June 21, 2018 by @amanhimself in Books / 0 Comments

Since the start of this decade Gary’s Crush It! has done wonders for many of its readers. In it, he insisted that a vibrant personal brand was crucial to entrepreneurial success. I happen to read it recently, just he announced the launch of Crushing It! a follow-up or you can say a modern version of Crush It! because a lot has changed and evolved since Gary wrote his previous book in 2009.   In Crushing It! Gary Vaynerchuk starts by explaining why it is important to create a personal brand and what tools you can use to do so. He briefly shares his own journey about how in his twenties he developed his family’s wine business from $4 million to […]

Subtitled as a Japanese story, Richard Brautigan’s Sombrero Fallout is my second reading of the author’s work. It is a unique story, a peculiar one too, with themes that might seem bizarre at first but are actually brought to clarity as the plot moves forward

BOOK REVIEW: Age of Azmoq – The Valantian Imperium by Rajamayyoor Sharma

BOOK REVIEW: Age of Azmoq – The Valantian Imperium by Rajamayyoor Sharma

Reading a highly imaginative tale can go either way, the good or the bad. Out of the imagination comes the plot and the characters which form the complete story. The effort of the writer does not diminish itself, but these are the two main factors I look in every fantasy novel. Age of Azmoq – The Valantian Imperium by Rajamayyoor Sharma is a fantasy novel. Azmoq is a rare metal found on the planet. It’s the ultimate source and symbol of real power, and the Valantian Imperium controls it all in Valantia. It is a tale that consists of magic and sorcery. and adventures that fill all 470 plus pages. The storyline of the book is divided into forty-eight chapters. […]

BOOK REVIEW: Powerful by Patty McCord

BOOK REVIEW: Powerful by Patty McCord

Posted May 17, 2018 by @amanhimself in Book Reviews, Books / 2 Comments

The nature of business in the modern digital and information overload age is ever-changing. The foundation of Patty McCord’s book Powerful – Building a Culture of Freedom and Responsibility is that the as workplace progress, so should human resources. The author challenges the old, traditional corporate HR that include annual performance reviews, retention plans, engagement programs, etc. She clearly speaks her mind in the early chapters that these activities and actions are a mere waste of time and resources and why the modern day companies, irrespective of their number of employees should not practice them. I liked this ideology. I feel this is the most positive point in the book. All that corporate mumbo-jumbo is a distraction and I have […]

BOOK REVIEW: Macbeth by Jo Nesbø

BOOK REVIEW: Macbeth by Jo Nesbø

Posted May 10, 2018 by @amanhimself in Book Reviews, Books, Fiction / 9 Comments

The latest addition to Hogarth Shakespeare Project is Jo Nesbø’s Macbeth. For those who do not know, Hogarth was launched in London in 2012 to retold one of the greatest stories of all times by modern day bestselling authors of today. Hogarth was founded by Virginia Woolf and her husband Leonard Woolf in 1917. This modern-day adaption of Shakespeare’s original play, sharing the same title is set in the 1970s. The book starts in a vividly poetic style. It is a crime plus noir version of the play that was written almost 400 years before. It focuses on a police force attempting to shed the drug problem in the local town. A drug lord, who keeps the whole town by […]
