BOOK REVIEW: Invoked – Hymns of War by Karan Bhatia

BOOK REVIEW: Invoked – Hymns of War by Karan Bhatia

Posted January 11, 2018 by @amanhimself in Book Reviews, Books, Reviews / 2 Comments

Pages: 200, Paperback Published: 2016 by Notion Press Invoked is the first book in the series of Hymns of War (a very thoughtful title, in my opinion) written by Karan Bhatia. The book is a horror thriller in the fiction genre and some of the scenes are dark and terrifying enough to give one goosebumps. The plot revolves around Krishna, a common man who is teacher at the university, and leads a simple life with his wife, daughter and his parents. An accident changes the fate of the whole family. These attacks starts like baby steps, small, as warnings but soon turn fatal and the life of Krishna becomes painful and intolerable. He then decides with the help of a […]

BOOK REVIEW: A Life to Die For by Nilay Shah

BOOK REVIEW: A Life to Die For by Nilay Shah

Posted January 9, 2018 by @amanhimself in Book Reviews, Books, Reviews / 0 Comments

Pages: 334, Paperback Published: 2017 Cover Rating: 5/5 I love reading complex plot structures. Not only it is clear view of writer’s imagination on how far they can push things inside their head and then put it in writing, but are a  challenging for a reader’s mind. Such is Nilay Shah’s latest book, A Life To Die For. A political thriller with a great amount of action. Based on a fictional representation of controversial state in the country of India, Kashwarg is is considered a paradise. The plot starts at an interesting point when a man who is the member of a militant force hands over a sixteen year old girl to the local police. The girl has been a […]

BOOK REVIEW: The Tao of Fully Feeling – Harvesting Forgiveness out of Blame by Pete Walker

BOOK REVIEW: The Tao of Fully Feeling – Harvesting Forgiveness out of Blame by Pete Walker

Posted January 7, 2018 by @amanhimself in 5 Stars, Book Reviews, Books, Reviews / 3 Comments

Pages: 295, Kindle Edition The Tao of Fully Feeling is the best companion I have found to read in the Dark Times. I got this book as a recommendation from another blogger who convinced me that Pete Walker’s writing is extraordinary. On reading the book, not only I found his vocabulary pleasing but as well as his writing style and the message he wants to convey through his written words. The subject matter of this book is all about acknowledging one’s emotional intelligence. If you remember Daniel Goleman’s bestseller and and one of the first books on Emotional Intelligence or why EQ matters more than IQ, this book is written for modern times and is a step ahead. While Daniel […]

Published: 2017 by Speaking Tiger Books Blurb To Deepa, Prem gave no hint of the churning inside him. In front of her he affected a cheery demeanour, indulging her in her plans for their honeymoon, which she kept revising. It was a welcome escape from the mayhem surrounding him. There were occasions where the pretence got to him and a voice rose inside, urging him to tell her everything. He silenced it. Deepa was a Hindu and would never understand. Until then, he had never thought of her as different.

BOOK REVIEW: Quantum by Dean de Servienti

BOOK REVIEW: Quantum by Dean de Servienti

Posted December 27, 2017 by @amanhimself in Book Reviews, Books, Reviews / 2 Comments

Pages: 301, Kindle Edition Published: June 2017, translated version Cover Rating: 3/5 I love to find out how sci-fi novelist approach a story. The possibilities of storylines, if you are sci-fi writer, are endless but only researched sci-fi books thrive for a longer period of time and have an ability to entertain a reader. Similar is Dean de Servienti’s upcoming trilogy, Quantum.

#BOOKSPOTLIGHT: Saudade by Husna Mohammad

Posted December 26, 2017 by @amanhimself in Books, Interviews / 7 Comments

Pages: 124, Kindle Edition Published: 2017 Book Blurb Very often, the most interesting stories are those that are not told. They need to be felt, heard with the heart and mind, deciphered from between the lines. Saudade, in essence, is a collection of 9 short stories centred around the lives of people from different walks of life, shaped by circumstance and traditional conformance. These tales are subtle, but can change the way the story ends. As with Che Guevera’s Legacy, where a young boy is forced to come to terms with the reality of political idealism. In The Inscrutable Case of a Lilac Saree, Zuhara Ammaye, bogged down by the loneliness of old age, struggles with the reality of her […]
