My 2016 Reading Challenge hosted by Goodreads.com began with the start of this amazing year. This year, I challenged myself to read 150 books, incrementing the amount of books from last year’s challenge(2015) by 25. At first I wasn’t event sure that I’d be able to complete the challenge and then after doing a good start and reading a proper amount of books and then failing to find overcome the procrastination of not reading, I found myself in a fumbling three months back. I was behind in the challenge by almost a decade of books and was ready to give up. I am below par as not exceeding my limit of 150 books this year in contrast with the last year in which I exceeded by a good margin.
I know, you might say the “number” doesn’t matter. It does not to me, most of the times, but I must confess this “number” or the amount of books at a given time drives me to read more when I am either procrastinating or not fully utilising my time such as by visiting sites that put cute images of cats on display. Somehow this year, I have managed to escape that feeling of personal disappointment of not completing the challenge but I am looking forward to the next year and hopefully, reading more, and exploring more wonderful books.
What do you think? Should I increase the next year? Should I take it to 175?
Are you taking the Goodreads challenge this year?
Congratulations!
Thank you.
I failed mine by quite a number, but am still quite happy with the quality of books I did end up reading (big fat books that took a lot of time to get through.) I’d still do it again next year, though! 175, though, that’s a gargantuan number.
Quality > Quantity
Wow 150 books read in one year. That is an amazing achievement. Congratulations 😀
Thanks!
Wow, well done you. I can’t image ever reading that many books in a year! I set myself to read 40 books. I’m like 2 behind now, but I still should make it by the 31st. I’m a readaholic too, but I’m dyslexic and though I can read fast, my brain gets tried more easily and has to have more time to process what I’ve read.
Plus, I can’t just read any old book, it has to be something I’m into otherwise I just give up. I do wish I can read more though, but I have three jobs now – including a blogging and story writing one which take up lots of time now.
My goal for next year is to read 50 books. I’m hoping to carry on increasing this and challenging myself to read more as I know I can do it.
Goodluck with your next year challenge and I really hope you complete your challenge this year. I am so happy you that you are so self-motivated to read more even after, I think, it’d be lot of effort to be put from your side. Goodluck!
Thanks, me too. I shall keep going though. I’ve got two series to start reading next year now.
Well done, 150 is an amazing number! I challenged myself to 75 and i’m at 52 so far which is 12 less than I read last year unfortunately. I’ve compared the two years and I’ve read far more books which are longer (City on Fire for instance which is 911 pages and A Little Life which is 720) and which are more complex/’weightier’ than last year and that has had a definite impact. I think i’m going to be more realistic in 2017 as I have a few books earmarked that are pretty long and don’t want to end up disappointed in myself when I’ve read a ridiculous amount of pages over the course of the year!
Realistic reading goals have their effect. I won’t call reading a specific number of books a goal but yes, reading something when one is investing their time when its precious is an achievement. I see it this way, every book I read or want to read, I see it as a short-term goal and I try learn and grab hold of things as much as I can. Accomplishing those short term goals is an achievement.
150!! Congrats! I’m struggling to reach 20 this year but maybe someday I’ll be on your level lol
Haha I am still on level one & it’s called Reading. You are on that level too. 😀
Well done, that’s an amazing amount of books!! I set myself 70 this year and I’m definitely going to miss it (in the 50s at the moment I think). Your number is impressive – congrats! 😊
150 books in a year!? That’s so so great!
(i’m jealous!)
Congratulations! 😀
Thanks! 🙂
Do you have any advice for reading that huge quantity? I am blown away that anyone could achieve that figure!
“Well, all I do is read” would be a hypothesis but yes, I do procrastinate and yes, I do waste time on things that I shouldn’t be doing and must be reading in that t period of time. That sense of procrastination is helping me to focus on what I should be doing [that is reading] and that way I become more self-conscious and that helps to drive my attention on reading books. If you see it that way, you can form a habit out of it. That’s my advice on reading books.
Congrats! I finally finished some books and posted reviews, have you checked them out? I think Monkey Puzzle is my most recent review.
I haven’t but will do. Thanks for the reminding me.
Sure
