BOOK REVIEW: Drive by James Sallis

BOOK REVIEW: Drive by James Sallis

There is so much about this character called Driver, that after watching the movie and reading the book it still bugs me. There is a movie adaption of the book (highly recommended to me by a friend) by the same name starring Ryan Gosling, Carry Mulligan and few more. The movie is an exception, the one you might have never seen before. It proves the statement, “Silence is so freaking good” true. Go and watch it yourself, and you won’t regret watching it. I am here to talk about the book more, and yes that’s what I’ll do. Drive is a new novella by one of the nation’s most respected and honored writers of noir fiction, James Sallis. Set mostly in Arizona and […]

21 signs You're Addicted to READING!

21 signs You're Addicted to READING!

Posted April 21, 2014 by @amanhimself in Books, Reviews / 0 Comments

The first step is admitting you have a problem, and I admit — I have an addiction to reading. So using my own personal experiences, I’ve compiled 21 signs that your love of books may have gotten out of hand.  And don’t forget to share ‘what you’re reading’ in the comments below! You’ve spent hours in a bookstore. You’re super-tired at work because you stayed up way too late reading just one more chapter, and then another. You’re always making your partner or friends crazy by reading aloud lines from the book you’re reading. You get more than a little defensive of your favorite authors. You’ve been late to work/college classes to finish a book. You know the book will be better than the movie before it’s out. […]

IT'S MONDAY, WHAT ARE YOU READING?

IT'S MONDAY, WHAT ARE YOU READING?

Posted April 14, 2014 by @amanhimself in Books, Reviews / 0 Comments

Mondays come and go. But this Monday is better than the previous ones. I feel like reading more, I want to feed on words today. Last week for me was not a satisfying one. I didn’t read much, and I feel guilty about it now. This week I am not going to make the same mistake thus I am reading two books right now and have plenty others two finish. Firstly, Dead of July by Sandra Thompson, a fellow blogger and a friend of mine who wrote this book and was released last year in November. So far it’s going well and I would say it’s quite thrilling. Her writing style is good and quite calm and satisfying and I must […]

BOOK REVIEW: AND THEN THERE WERE NONE by AGATHA CHRISTIE

BOOK REVIEW: AND THEN THERE WERE NONE by AGATHA CHRISTIE

I have never been on good terms when reading Agatha Christie. She made me bore and I confess guiltily (it’s not my habit generally) I have left her two books previously in between while reading. But few years back, a wise man recommended her to me, told me to read her books, stick to them. And this time I did. And There Were None by Agatha Christie, another recommendation by a special friend whom I’ll thank personally, wanted me to read this one. I read And There Were None in few hours (only two breaks in between) and it was hard to put down. A complete thrilling and terrifying experience which made me go mad and fall in love with it. After […]

BOOK REVIEW: BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR BY JEFFREY ARCHER

BOOK REVIEW: BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR BY JEFFREY ARCHER

Posted April 8, 2014 by @amanhimself in Books, Reviews / 0 Comments

Be Careful What You Wish For is at the very least a better novel then the previous entry into the series, Best Kept Secret. However for a series that started off as splendidly as this, it’s still a let down from the first two novels. The fourth novel in the Clifton Chronicles series picks up minutes where the Best Kept Secret left. This is regular Jeffrey Archer book, no doubt Archer is a wonder story teller but this story (particularly the last two books in this series) is not Archer’s best books. It looks very ordinary on reading as it is advancing. Still, I am very eager to know what will be the final outcome of the Clifton Saga. The […]

MANSFIELD PARK TURNS 200

MANSFIELD PARK TURNS 200

Posted March 19, 2014 by @amanhimself in Books, Reviews / 0 Comments

Mansfield Park turns 200 (as published in 1814) this year. It might not be as popular as Pride and Prejudice but it is worth reading. Whether you are a fan of Jane Austen (and no, you do not need a women’s body to like and read Jane Austen’s books) or not, you should read this one. It will be a good start to become one and explore Austen’s writing. When I read it, few years back, I was astounded how different this book is from her other works, especially Pride and Prejudice, and Emma. Fanny Price, the main character, her timidity and morality, quite different from the heroines of the other two. They were smart and sensible, but Fanny Price […]

De Profundis is an epistle written by Oscar Wilde during his imprisonment in Reading Gaol, to Lord Alfred Douglas. I picked this work as it was recommended by few friends to me, sometime back. Also, it is one the few works written by Oscar Wilde remaining which I have not read. Well, what are you reading?
