BOOK REVIEW: Things a Little Bird Told Me by BIZ STONE

Things a little bird told me: Confessions of a Creative Mind by Biz Stone goes through the life of the author himself from the time he was living with his girlfriend in his mom’s basement till the time where Twitter is valued fifteen million dollars, and the birth of Jelly Co. Biz Stone, the co-founder of Twitter, discusses the power of creativity and how to harness it, through stories from his remarkable life and career.

I picked this book because I have enormous amount of interest in reading about techies and their lives. They always inspire and motivate me to do new things/keep doing what I am doing towards the betterment of myself and the technology. Biz Stone, in some ways or the other, does motivate a reader, if he’s a tech-savvy or looking for some motivation to go on with his creativity as he offers some great advice about creating ideas, manufacturing opportunity and abandoning the straight and narrow way of thinking. The book is filled with interesting stories of Stone’s life and some of them are quite mind-blowing such as the joke offer to sell Twitter to Mark Zuckerberg for five-hundred million dollars. How the major event SXSW 2007 turned out to be a new motivation for the Twitter. The plane landing in the Hudson River (I was fascinated by this story, in which Twitter responded faster than the news broadcasting channels and other media. Otherwise, the book is also a Twitter’s semi-autobiography, the events of it’s development are followed along by Biz’s life.

In an nutshell, there isn’t much to write about this book except that it’s a memoir of Biz Stone. The book is a light, easy, funny, interesting and an important read for everyone who are working in the creative industry. A must read for someone interested in setting up a start-up!
