BOOK REVIEW: Ignoring Gravity by Sandra Danby
Sandra Danby’s Ignoring Gravity is a must read this winter. Danby’s gripping writing style and novel’s pace are enough to please a reader.
Set in London, Rose is a journalist in her thirties working for the London Herald. She is single and has had a number of failed relationships never having met the man of her dreams. Rose has always looked after her younger sister. Her sister Lily is married not in a happy marriage. She is simply desperate for a baby but her husband is less interested and is not happy with Lily’s obsession by healthy eating in order to encourage conception.
After their mother’s death, to spare their father from the task of going through their recently departed mother’s possessions, Rose and Lily begin the painful job of sorting through her clothing and personal items. It turns out that their mother kept a diary,recording the events off her life. Glancing through the diaries, Rose is shocked to discover that she was adopted and goes into an emotional turmoil, experiencing feelings of betrayal and abandonment. Rose soon uses her investigative skills to track down the identity of her biological mother. Whether she is successful or not, you’ll have to read it to find out.
The characterization in this book, goes very well with the plot and the pace the plot moves. Characters of Rose and Lily are almost realistic, very much like a real human being. There is no doubt that Sandra writing grabs a reader’s attention as fast as thee plot in her book moves which is why her writing is persuasive and flawless. I can’t wait to see a paperback edition of this book.

Sandra Danby grew up on a small dairy farm at the bleak edge of East Yorkshire where England meets the North Sea. She started reading early and has never stopped. After a degree in English Literature in London, she became a journalist. Now she writes fiction full-time.

The next book in the ‘Rose Haldane: Identity Detective’ series
Sandra is now writing Connectedness, the sequel to Ignoring Gravity, in which Rose Haldane travels from Yorkshire to Malaga, Spain, in pursuit of the birth child of controversial artist Justine Tree. Connectedness will be published in 2015, followed by the third in the series Sweet Joy in 2016.
