BOOK REVIEW: The War of Art by Steven Pressfield

Recommended by many, read by me, and the conclusion? Not so good.

The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks & Win Your Inner Creative Battles by Steven Pressfield is develop in a “self-help” book way that makes a reader to confront about disease of not working, procrastination. I appreciate author’s effort as he starts off with a high node, by making a reader realize the evil and withdrawing power of resistance. He goes on explaining the causes of why we resist to work and it is our conscience which is blocking our creative mind. He then describe ways to overpower the evil of resistance and to continue to do our work. That’s the only positive point I found through the text of this book.more

However, this book certainly fail in many ways to motivate a reader. Many readers might find it very absolutist and extremist. He then starts blaming the reader for procrastinating everything. Author’s point is somehow valid, we are all responsible for the cause of our actions, but the way he tries to put the fact in a reader’s mind is too demotivating and unhealthy. His words prove to be much judgmental he clearly suggests a reader to disintegrate himself from the other activities which might not be artistic but are necessary to have an equilibrate life.

I won’t recommend this to you for it’s a much hyped-up book.
