BOOK REVIEW: Invoked – Hymns of War by Karan Bhatia

BOOK REVIEW: Invoked – Hymns of War by Karan Bhatia

Posted January 11, 2018 by @amanhimself in Book Reviews, Books, Reviews / 2 Comments

Pages: 200, Paperback Published: 2016 by Notion Press Invoked is the first book in the series of Hymns of War (a very thoughtful title, in my opinion) written by Karan Bhatia. The book is a horror thriller in the fiction genre and some of the scenes are dark and terrifying enough to give one goosebumps. The plot revolves around Krishna, a common man who is teacher at the university, and leads a simple life with his wife, daughter and his parents. An accident changes the fate of the whole family. These attacks starts like baby steps, small, as warnings but soon turn fatal and the life of Krishna becomes painful and intolerable. He then decides with the help of a […]

Pages: 149, Paperback Published: September, 2017 Cover Rating: 5/5 This year, I  have read  few short stories. Recent addition being Saudade written by creative Indian Writer, Husna Mohammad. Saudade is a collection nine different stories that cover a variety of topics but every one of them share same geographical location: Kerela, Southern India. The stories revolve around the social, political and cultural environment that exists in the region. The title itself explains by  the meaning of the word Saudade, which is incidentally the running thread in most of the stories. Short stories generally mean different plots and these stories are centred around the lives of people from different walks of life and shaped by their own fate and circumstance. The first […]

#BOOKSPOTLIGHT: Saudade by Husna Mohammad

#BOOKSPOTLIGHT: Saudade by Husna Mohammad

Posted December 26, 2017 by @amanhimself in Books, Interviews / 7 Comments

Pages: 124, Kindle Edition Published: 2017 Book Blurb Very often, the most interesting stories are those that are not told. They need to be felt, heard with the heart and mind, deciphered from between the lines. Saudade, in essence, is a collection of 9 short stories centred around the lives of people from different walks of life, shaped by circumstance and traditional conformance. These tales are subtle, but can change the way the story ends. As with Che Guevera’s Legacy, where a young boy is forced to come to terms with the reality of political idealism. In The Inscrutable Case of a Lilac Saree, Zuhara Ammaye, bogged down by the loneliness of old age, struggles with the reality of her […]

October is here and only few weeks are left to complete or compete anymore in your reading challenges. By the way I did complete my Goodreads challenge for 2017 of reading 200 books. (More on this later.) I have managed to gather around a list of books that are available this month for Science Fiction and Fantasy fans. The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy 2017 by J. J. Adams and Charles Yu | 384 pages Science fiction and fantasy can encompass so much, from far-future deep-space sagas to quiet contemporary tales to unreal kingdoms and beasts. But what the best of these stories do is the same across the genres—they illuminate the whole gamut of the human experience, interrogating […]
