The School of Life

Recently, a I came across an YouTube channel: The School of Life while browsing YouTube for videos on Stoicism. I was astonished by the content in the channel and variety of topics it consists with enough focus on graphics. It might be not new to many of you but I say its worth of checking out if you are hearing it for the first time. After some time, browsing through their videos and stuff I went to their website and to satisfy my curiosity to know more. Looks like they have a dozen books published under the succession of The School of Life. You can check the list of books published by them here on Goodreads.com.

James Patterson is  a machine when comes to writing and publishing books. For almost half a year, one or the other from his books is on New York Times Bestseller List. People read him. His books are fast paced and you can manage to read one of them while traveling to your work in day or two (assuming the distance between your work and where you live is nearly 2 hours) or if you want to accomplish reading in shorter period of time frame and some of his books are able to satisfy the demands of voracious readers. I mean the usual: the P/PC balance between the plot and its characters. I haven’t ready of his book in a long time. It has […]

A Half Yearly Reading List

Posted July 12, 2016 by @amanhimself in Book List / 0 Comments

Half of the year has gone, and we have our noses inside the books we are reading and our thoughts mingling around the books we want to read. 2016 has not been so much of a reading year for me as 2015 was. But I have read some good books and few great ones too. Thus, I am compiling a list of books that I have read this year and would like to share with you. Worth taking a look:

Cyberpunk first came into existence around late 1970s. This particular type of genre share its boundaries with science-fiction from the start and hasn’t shy away from development during the time. In terms of books, these are titles you should take look: Neuromancer by William Gibson Artificial Intelligence in 1980s. Computer who can think and communicate with human beings as well as manipulate them in doing stuff. The story has cyberspace, data-thieves, samurai, assassins. This is 1980s we are talking about. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick This book was first published in 1968 and is still ahead of time. It’s an important piece for the type of genre.

The world of science fiction and fantasy is booming and I came across many titles on the internet in the specific genre(s) but only few grabbed my attention. When a stranger knocks on his door, the boy senses that his days of isolation are over—but by what authority does this man keep the meticulous records he carries? Is he the boy’s friend? His enemy? Or something altogether other? Arcadia by Ian Pears Blurb: Henry Lytten – a spy turned academic and writer – sits at his desk in Oxford in 1962, dreaming of other […]

Reading is a fascinating activity but a very time consuming one. The time spent in reading books is though worth if you learn from the books you are reading. If you are not, leave it and better pick another. That’s the good thing about reading books. You are never out of options. So here are some books on the art of reading: The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin My Rating 5 out of 5! The Pleasures of Reading in an Age of Distraction by Alan Jacobs My Rating 4 out of 5!
